Our mission statement
The mission of the AIDS Research Institute is to become a regional resource for HIV/AIDS research by . . .

  • Coordinating and stimulating collaborative scientific research and exchange within the academic community,
  • Offering relevant educational and training opportunities in the many areas related to HIV infection, and
  • Providing clinical resources and education to the San Diego community.

The ARI serves as the nexus for AIDS researchers to share research and ideas and, together, devise new approaches to the prevent, diagnose and treat HIV/AIDS.

About the ARI
In 1996, the AIDS Research Institute, an Organized Research Unit (ORU) was established by the Regents of the University of California to coordinate the diverse AIDS research and clinical activities on the UCSD campus. The Institute is housed within the School of Medicine at UCSD.

By coordinating and promoting scientific research and exchange within the academic community, as well as providing clinical resources and education to the community at large, our members strive to halt the spread of HIV and AIDS through cutting-edge research, innovative clinical trials, and public education.

About the Scientific Advisory Board
The ARI Director and six members of the ARI Scientific Advisory Board are nationally recognized leaders in HIV/AIDS research. Board members are experts in laboratory and clinical research, behavioral issues, and public health.

About our Events
Approximately three times per year, the ARI collaborates with artistic and cultural organizations to present events from which the proceeds benefit our research and clinical activities. Our next event is Investigating Motion, a dance concert scheduled on Thursday, October 1, 2009.

If you are interested in contributing to the ARI via an artistic or cultural event, please contact our Administrative Director, Kimberly Schafer or see our Events page. For other ways to contribute, please see our Donations page.
